Moon and Son is a BBC TV series made in 1992.

Premise and characters

The series starred Millicent Martin as a clairvoyant, Gladys Moon, and John Michie as her very attractive psychic son, Trevor Moon, who travelled between Folkestone in the United Kingdom and France, doing readings and selling occult and astrological goods from their mobile "salon" (called "Visions") and getting involved in various adventures along the way. Trevor seemed to be waiting for his dead father's money, although he was secretly fond of Gladys, and she was fond of a tipple or two.

It co-starred Laure Killing as Cecille Coulmier, Trevor's girlfriend, and other characters included the zany Zelda (Anita Graham) as another clairvoyant/medium friend of Gladys's, Sergeant Eavis (Ian Redford) in the UK and Inspector Sardou in France (Patrick Drury) who all assisted the duo through their adventures.

Despite reports that the BBC had already commissioned a second series before the first one aired, the show only ran for 13 episodes and was cancelled after series one. John Michie went on to star as Robbie Ross in the long-running "Taggart" TV series and "Bare Necessities", while Millicent Martin, already famous for "That Was The Week That Was" in the sixties, went on to star in the American soap "Days of Our Lives" and as another Mrs Moon - Daphne's mother in the hit sitcom Frasier.

The series was created by Robert Banks Stewart, who also wrote for the long-running series The Avengers and Doctor Who in the 1960s and 1970s. To this date the series has only been repeated once on Satellite TV and has never been released on DVD or video.

Filming Locations

The series was mostly filmed in Kent and France. In Kent they used a variety of locations including Folkestone, Kent and East Sussex Railway, Oare Marshes, Chilham Castle, Crabble Corn Mill, Dover, Deal, Folkestone Harbour, Dungeness Estate, The Grand Folkestone, The Leas Cliff Hall and The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.[1]
