Moon King is the pop music project of songwriter and producer Daniel Woodhead, often performing as Daniel Benjamin or Daniel Moonking.[1]

Moon King's music has been described as dream pop, electronic pop or indie rock.[2]

Daniel grew up in the Annex neighbourhood of Toronto, Canada.[3]

In 2011, a cassette tape of Daniel's first recordings as Moon King caught the ear of Fucked Up guitarist Mike Haliechuk, who released two 12" EPs, Obsession I and II, on his label One Big Silence.[4]

On December 11, 2014, Moon King announced they had signed to Last Gang Records[5] and released their debut album, Secret Life, on April 7, 2015.[1]

The band has toured North America and Europe with artists including Alvvays, TOPS, Fucked Up, Austra, Mr Twin Sister, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Majical Cloudz [6][7][8][9] and appeared in music publications such as Pitchfork Media, the Fader, NME, and Dazed Digital.[10][11][12][13]

Daniel has also performed with Grimes,[14] Sean Nicholas Savage and his brother Airick Woodhead's project Doldrums.[15]

From 2011 to 2016 Moon King performed as a duo with Maddy Wilde, who played guitar and sang vocal harmonies. They were frequently accompanied by other musicians. On November 1, 2016, Maddy announced she was leaving the band via their Facebook page.[16]
