Mo Church (Norwegian: Mo kyrkje) is a parish church in Modalen municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Mo. The church is part of the Mo parish in the Nordhordland deanery in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white wooden church was built in 1883 by the architect Johannes Øvsthus. The church was consecrated on 11 July 1883. The church seats about 220 people.[1][2]

History

The first church in Mo was probably a stave church that was built in the 12th century. The second church was built in 1593 after tearing down the old church. The third (and present) church was built on the same site as the previous church in 1883. Historically, this church was part of the Hamre prestegjeld (parish) until 1749. From 1749 until 1967 it was part of the Hosanger prestegjeld. In 1967, the church became part of the Østereidet parish, based in Lindås municipality. Since 2004, the church has been the only church in the Mo parish which includes the whole municipality of Mo.
