The Ministry of Finance (Finnish: Valtiovarainministeriö , Swedish: Finansministeriet) is one of the 12 ministries in the Finnish Government. It prepares the Government's economic and financial policy as well as the Budget, and acts as a tax policy expert. It is also responsible for preparing the financial market policy, the state's employer and personnel policy and developing public administration.[2]

The ministry publishes its forecasts about developments of national, regional and global economy in the near future. Forecasts for 2015 were by far too optimistic.[3]

Ministry of Finance is one of the two oldest ministries in Finland. Finland’s fiscal autonomy started in the Diet of Porvoo in 1809, when the Emperor of Russia and Grand Duke of Finland Alexander I solemnly declared that all taxes levied in autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland would be used solely to meet the nation’s own needs. The predecessor of Ministry of Finance, Economic Division of The Governing Council, was founded to manage civil administration and economic affairs of the country.[4]
