Michael Matus (actor)
Michael Matus is a British actor known for his performances in musical theatre and on television.
Life and career
Matus was born in Borneo and attended the King's School in Canterbury before studying at the University of Bristol and at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
He was in the original production of Martin Guerre directed by Declan Donnellan, and in the transfer of a 2011 production of the musical Lend Me a Tenor.[1] He has also worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare's Globe, the Royal Court Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, Shared Experience, Headlong and the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, West Yorkshire Playhouse on 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, Taboo in Brixton, The Sound of Music at Regent's Park, The A to Z of Mrs P at the Southwark Playhouse and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown at The Playhouse. He played Monsieur Firmin in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre and starred as Dionysos in The Frogs at the Jermyn Street Theatre in 2017.[2]
He played small roles in the films The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Crying Game, and on television has appeared in EastEnders, Endeavour, The Bill, A Prince Among Men and The Dom Joly Show.
Matus has been nominated for a Helen Hayes Award,[3] a TMA award, a What's-On-Stage award [4] and in 2003 he was a joint winner of the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement for the RSC's Jacobean season [5]
Michael Matus lives in London. He is a keen cricket player and in 1991 founded the team, 'International Rescue CC'.
