Michael Mangini is a two time Grammy Award–winning record producer and owner of Mojo Music, a production and artist Management company.[2] Many songs he has worked on went on to become chart-topping singles. He received his Grammies for his work with the musical groups Digable Planets and Baha Men.[3]
1985–1992: Early years
Mangini started his career in the music industry in 1985 at studios in Baltimore, Maryland. He also started writing songs, singing, and playing guitar for the band China Blue. Mangini and the band relocated to Los Angeles to record songs at various studios, which is where he first learned music engineering and programming. He went from being an assistant at Chung King Studios to becoming a multi-Platinum award-winning mixing engineer within two years.[4]
1993–2001: Shift to production
In early 1993, Mangini opened a studio in New Jersey and soon recorded, co-produced and mixed the Digable Planets Grammy winning single "Cool Like Dat."[5] In 2000 along with Steve Greenberg he produced the Baha Men’s album Who Let the Dogs Out?, receiving a 2000 Grammy Award in the "Best Dance Recording" category as a producer. During this phase of his career, Mangini worked with popular musicians such as the Jonas Brothers, Bruce Hornsby, and David Byrne.[6]
2002–present
Identifying a need to develop and nurture young artists, Mangini first worked with Joss Stone, who was discovered by Steve Greenberg. Mangini produced her first record, The Soul Sessions, and her follow-up album, Mind Body & Soul'. Mangini continues to develop and produce emerging artists including Little Jackie, Diane Birch, Hailey Knox and others.[7][8][9]
