Melnica (Macedonian: Мелница) is a village in the municipality of Čaška, Republic of Macedonia.
History
The village is inhabited by Macedonian Muslims that speak Macedonian.[1] Their ancestors were Mijaks who converted to Islam during the 16th century and migrated from the Mala Reka region between the 18th and 19th centuries to Melnica.[1]
Though most Macedonian Muslims are Sunni, in Melnica followers of Sufi Islam are present attached to various Sufi orders such as the Melami, Halveti and Bektashi.[2]
