Melanothrix alternans is a moth in the Eupterotidae family. It was described by Pagenstecher in 1890.[1] It is found in the Philippines (Palawan) and on Borneo. The habitat consists of hill dipterocarp forests and wet heath forests.

Adult males have no white area on the forewings, but a diffuse, triangular ochreous zone on the margin. The females have a white band across the forewings postmedially, and a row of dark circles in the white marginal zone of the hindwing.[2]
