Melanobatrachinae is a subfamily of microhylid frogs. It contains a single monotypic genus, Melanobatrachus Beddome, 1878. It is endemic to the Western Ghats of India.[1] Two African genera, Hoplophryne Barbour & Loveridge, 1928 and Parhoplophryne Barbour & Loveridge, 1928, that were previously placed in this subfamily are now in a subfamily of their own, Hoplophryninae.[2]
