Mayor of Hastings, New Zealand

The Mayor of Hastings is the head of the municipal government of Hastings, New Zealand, and presides over the Hastings District Council. The first mayor was Robert Wellwood (1886–1887),[1] and the current mayor, since the 2001 election, is Lawrence Yule.[2] Lawrence Yule has announced that his current term, which began in 2016, will be his last.[3] He has also suggested he may leave sooner if his bid to become a member of parliament is successful.[4]

The mayor is directly elected using a First Past the Post electoral system.[5]
