Māui (mythology)

Māui (Maui) is the great culture hero and trickster of Polynesian mythology.

Stories about his exploits are told in nearly every Polynesian land. Maui in most cases is regarded as a god, or as fully divine; in some places, he is regarded as merely human.[1]

He appears as a demigod and a primary character in the 2016 Disney film Moana, and was voiced by Dwayne Johnson; Maui is armed with a magical fish hook.
