Matthew Olosunde (born March 7, 1998) is an American soccer player who plays for Manchester United U23s as a right-back.
Club career
Olosunde began his career at New York Red Bulls Academy as a right winger. While playing for the club's under-16 and under-18 academy teams in 2014, he played 71 minutes for the Red Bulls' reserve team in the United Soccer League.[1] Having verbally committed to play college soccer at Duke University, Olosunde left the Red Bulls following the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. In January 2016, he signed with English club Manchester United. In March, he was cleared and joined the team.
Olosunde first played in the U-18 team, but sometime later he was promoted to the under-23 team in the Premier League 2. With the under-23 team, he played 16 matches in the 2016–17 season. One goal scored by Olosunde in the Dallas Cup was nominated for United's Goal of the Month Award for April.[2][3]
International career
Olosunde has played for the United States at several youth levels. For the United States U17, he played 22 matches and was part of the 21-player roster that represented United States at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile. He only appeared in the team's first match against Nigeria.[4] Due to his heritage, he is also eligible to represent Nigeria at the international level.
