Matthew Kent Olson (born March 29, 1994) is an American professional baseball first baseman and right fielder for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Career
Olson attended Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia.[1] He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft.[2][3] He made his professional debut that season for the Arizona League Athletics and also played for the Vermont Lake Monsters that season. He played in 50 games and hit .282/.352/.521 with nine home runs.
In 2013, Olson played for the Beloit Snappers.[4] In 134 games, he hit only .225/.326/.435 but with 23 home runs and 93 runs batted in (RBI). Olson started 2014 with the Stockton Ports.[5] Throughout the season he was among the home run leaders in Minor League Baseball.[6] He played the 2015 season with the Double-A Midland RockHounds. Olson played the entire 2016 minor league season with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. The Athletics purchased his contract on September 12, and he was called up to the major league club.[7]
