Marquis of Barreiro e Lavradio is a title in the Peerage of Portugal. It was created on October 18th 1753 for the prominent statesman D. António d'Almeida Soares Portugal. He had already been created Count of Lavradio on January 12th 1714, and was already, in his own right, the 4th Count of Avintes, also in the Peerage of Portugal. The first Marquis served in high positions under John V of Portugal and D. José I, and served as the 38th Governor of Angola, from 1749 to 1743, and, albeit briefly, as the 8th Vice-Roy of Brazil.
The Marquis of Lavradio is a member of the noble Almeida family of Portugal, whose origins and genealogy are described in all of the portuguese nobiliaries, notably "História Genealógica da Casa Real Portuguesa", by D. António Caetano de Sousa, and "Brasões da Sala de Sintra", by Anselmo Braamcamp Freire.
