Manuel (name)

Manuel is a male given name originating in the Hebrew name עִמָּנוּאֵל (Immanu'el), which means "God with us."[1] It was possibly brought from the Byzantine Empire (as Μανουήλ) to Spain and Portugal, where it has been used since at least the 13th century.[2] Manuel is popular in Spanish, Portuguese and German. It is also used in Italian, French, Romanian, Greek (Latinized), Polish, Dutch and English, where Manny is used as a nickname.
