Manatsu no Tōriame (真夏の通り雨, lit. "Midsummer Shower") is a song by Japanese singer-songwriter Utada Hikaru. It was released digitally April 15, 2016, at the same as her other new single, Hanataba wo Kimi ni. The song is the theme to NTV's news show NEWS ZERO. The single is Utada's first release since 2012's Evangelion 3.0 theme song Sakura Nagashi, along with Hanataba wo Kimi ni, and it marks her official comeback to Japanese music scene.

Utada explains about her song "Manatsu no tori ame" which is a theme song of Japanese news show "ZERO". In this song, "you" means her mother to her. In her imagination, this song's character is a 40s~50s woman who had no choice to leave a person who she loves and the woman regret it. Utada was worried about if this song fits this news show because this song is a song of personal feelings. However, now she thinks this song fits this news show. She thinks because all news are about humans.Telling about countries, politics, etc. are about humans. She also talked about the reason she needed stop singing for 6 years. She said she needed normal life, like normal people. In Japan, she felt everyone saw her very special. She could not feel a connection to other people and she could not understand herself because of her life without human relationships. The situation was very tough to her. Then she decided to stop singing, started new life as a normal pearson.
