Manasu Malligey(Kannada: ͈ಮನಸು ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ) is an Indian romantic drama Kannada film directed by S. Narayan and produced by Rockline Venkatesh and Akash Chawla.[2] The film, a remake of Nagraj Manjule's super hit film Marathi film Sairat सैराट (2016), features Rinku Rajguru, reprising her role from the original, and Nishanth in the lead roles.[3] Whilst the soundtrack and score is by Ajay-Atul, the cinematography is by Manohar Joshi.[4]
Overview
The film depicts love-story between a girl of an upper caste and a boy from a lower caste; thus it comments on the caste system in India. This commentary culminates into honour killing; honour killing prevalent in few parts of rural India. the original film "Sairat" became extremely popular due to powerhouse performance of complete newcomer Rinku Rajguru and Aakash Thosar, Ajay-Atul's melodious music and tight script. The audience could easily identify with the pivotal characters, their rural style of dialogue delivery and social problems discussed in the film. It is not known whether S. Narayan has retained the original script and the style of making of Nagraj Manjule. The music of Manasu Malligey was released on Valentine's day on 14 Feb 2017 and within less than a week, the viewership crossed about 2 lakh hits. The music of Manasu Malligey has been scored by Ajay-Atul, who have retained the original score and just added Kannada lyrics in place of original Marathi ones. All songs have been sung by the same singers who rendered the original songs, except an additional song which has been rendered by Sonu Nigam.
