Maharani Jaivantabai Songara was the first wife of Udai Singh II, and mother of Maharana Pratap. She was the daughter of Akhey Raj Songara Chauhan of Jalore, a princely state of Rajasthan. She was also known as Jeevant kanwar before her marriage as after marriage the title kanwar changes into the title bai. Jaiwanta advised Udai Singh on political matters. Although she faced many problems, she never failed at her administrative work. Her son, Pratap was in line to become king, but Udai Singh's favorite wife, Rani Dheer Bai Bhattiyani, wanted her son Jagmal to become the king. After Rana's death in 1572, Jagmal ascended the throne as per his father's wishes. Just before the accession ceremony was to begin, Pratap's followers physically moved Jagmal to another seat and Pratap ascended the throne.

Jaiwanta Bai was a brave, straightforward Rajput Queen. She was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna and never compromised with her principles and idealistic beliefs. She passed down her cherished principles and righteousness to Pratap, who was very much inspired by her. Later in his life, Pratap also followed the same idealistic and principles which Jaiwanta Bai followed.Pratap become a great rana(king). She gave morals to pratap and he followed it and because of which he got his name written in the list of great people. She has played an important role in pratap's life.
