Mahakali — Anth Hi Aarambh Hai (English: The Great Goddes Kali - Death is only the beginning). is a mythological television show, that airs on Colors at 7 pm every weekend.

It is based on the story of Adi Shakti's incarnations, but focusing primarily on Goddess Mahakali and Goddess Parvati .

Pooja Sharma aka Draupadi of Mahabharat fame has been roped to play the titular role. It also has Saurabh Raj Jain playing the role of Lord Shiva who is popularly known for playing Krishna, also in Mahabharat. Interestingly, both of them portrayed the close friendship, Krishna-Draupadi in Mahabharat and in Mahakali, they play the role of a married couple, Shiva-Parvati.

The show is created by Siddharth Kumar Tewary of Swastik Productions. He has created several successful shows like Mahabharat, Suryaputra Karn, Shani etc.

The show is the first show ever to be made entirely on Kali showcasing her journey from Parvati to becoming the fierce warrior goddess. The show also deals with the theme of women empowerment and gives out a message to all the women that they need to find their inner strength and must not depend on men, irrespective of their relationship and should therefore be able to fight for themselves and to tackle their own problems without their need of a man. Goddess Kali is more or less portrayed as the inner warrior within every woman who manifests when the world taunts her. The show's primary antagonists are the demons Shumbh and Nishumbh and their lackeys Chand and Mund who represent the worst in mankind. The show swims through how Shiva coaches Parvati to realize the fact that she is Adi-Shakthi, the primodial original force that was responsible for the creation of the world. The show also features Raktabija, the Joker to Kali's Batman character. The show is a finite series having 1000 episodes.

Plot

Parvati is introduced as a sweet, motherly and docile woman who, like evey other individual of the time period, is brainwashed into believing men are superior to women. Shiva, her husband doesn't believe that. He along with Lord Vishnu orchestrates Parvati receiving a vision of Mahakali, a terrific warrior goddess, fighting off hordes of demons.

Like most stories in Hindu Mythology, this story begins with the war between the gods and the demons. However, this time, the gods defeated and driven out of their homes in heaven. They are forced to seek refuge with Parvati and Shiva, at their home in mount Kailash.

The demon king and Primary antagonist, Shumbh sends his messengers to Kailash, declaring war upon Shiva and Parvati for sheltering the gods. But smitten by Parvati's beauty, the demons retreat without saying much and inform Shumbh and his simpleton brother Nishumbh of Parvati's gorgeousness.

Meanwhile, Shiva Informs Parvati and the gods that only a woman can kill the demon duo due to a celestial boon. He also taunts Parvati, telling her that it was ineligent of the demons to get such a specific boon, as no woman is tough enough to battle men. Parvati silently nods, and Shiva wows to change her opinion.

The demon king's envoy arrives with Shumbh's proposal: if Parvati were to marry Shumbh, he would give up on hunting the gods. The gods violently react to the messenger's words, threatening to kill him. But Parvati stops them and declines Shumbh's proposal, but also warns the demon to use his better judgement and not disrespect a woman. She then shows him out.

Parvati complains to Shiva of her mistreatment. He simply replies with "Why do women come to men to solve their problems. Women need to fight their own battles." And then proceeds to speak in metaphoric sentences that become crucial to Parvati only later. He falls into a trance, as he usually does and Parvati is left to ponder on the meaning of his words.

Out of reverence to Parvati's gentleness and hospitality, the gods vow to protect her. Undettered, Shumbh sends his trusted, Dhoomralochan to bring Parvati to hell, his capital by force. When he attacks with an army of 60,000 men and insults the intelligence of women, Parvati looses her temper and screams loudly into space. Due to the cosmic vibrations from her shriek, Dhoomralochan and his army are turned to dust.

This marks the begening of Parvati's transition into the warrior Goddess Mahakali. It is at this moment that the other Goddeses like Lakshmi and Saraswathi realize that there is something different about Parvati.

Shumbh is infuriated and sends another horde of demons to bring Parvati to him and defeat the gods. In this war, the gods are lead by the Goddess Narasimhi who, due to her horrific appearance is mistaken to be the warrior goddess from Parvati's vision.

As the demons slaughtered god after another, the commanders, Chand and Mund make a dash for Goddess Lakshmi, who they decide to kidnap.

As she watches in horror, Parvati remembers something Shiva had told her earlier before he went into a trance : "If a woman gives up her 'shanka' (doubt, hesitation, fear) she becomes 'Shankar' (God, supreme force). And this end will mark a greater begening." Parvati rushes forwards to protect Goddes Lakshmi who is trying to defend herself but in vain.

As she runs towards the demons, her anger crosses all bounds, she rids herself of all her hesitations and fears and transforms herself into Goddess Kali, the warrior.

Parvati, who was white-skinned (Gauri), naive, innocent and the tamer of Shiva morphs into Mahakali, who is bluish black-skinned (Kali), fierce, brave and is untamed by Shiva. She is armed with a scimitar, has her hair in a disarray and a garland of demon heads around her neck and an apron of demon arms around her waist.

As she descends upon the demon army, she destroys them by thousands, including Chand and Mund, earning herself the epithet of "Chamunda".

She advices the other Goddess to also give up their heaitations and learn to fight for themselves. She tells them that whenever mankind treats a woman less than anything she deserves, she has all the rights to turn into a Kali.

The goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswathi, Narsinghi, Aranyani and Aindri join her in battle assist her in destroying the demons. (A nod to the Saptamatrikas by the creators of the show)

The demon king then sends Rakthabija, a demon famous as being Mahakali's Primary enemy. He had the ability to create a clone of himself from every fallen drop of his blood.

Each time a goddess struck him, another Raktabija was born. Kali then licks up all the blood that oozes out of Raktabija's self and drains him completely of his pseudo-nectar, killing him.

She chops off the head of the first Raktajiba and runs amock on the battleground, murderring all those who came in her way.

To stop her rampage, Shiva awakens from his trance and lies down in front of Kali. She steps on him, realizes that she had stepped on her husband (which is a sin in Indian culture) and sticks out her tongue in shame.

Sad, Kali turns back into Parvati. Shiva makes her realize that she did nothing wrong, but Parvati is also bothered by the fact that Kali had to manifest in her and not any other woman at the time of need. She realizes that there is something more to her than just a housewife.

She embarks on a journey away from kailash on the mission of self realization, where she is introduced to Goddess Sati, her previous incarnation, by Shiva who acts as her guide.

Shiva said story of sati , a brave girl who meet mahadev in forest . Shiva said parwati that sati leave his father Daksha and marry with mahadev . After sometime Daksha arranged yagna . he not invite Shiva and sati . sati went to meet him but shiv stopped her but she went yagna-shala . Daksha said sati many bad words and sati became so angry and burnt herself at yagna-shala. Angry Shiva roared and Mahakali emerges . Shiva cut his jata who invoke virabhadra and tell destroy daksha. Vishnu and Brahma said Daksha ask forgiveness to Shiva but daksha not agree with them. Virabhadra fight with soldiers of daksha .

Daksha ask help of Vishnu . Vishnu try to stop virabhadra but mahakali stop Vishnu and Virabhadra came yagna-shala . Mahakali came and said virabhadra Daksha had polluted mind of society cut his head . virabhadra cut daksha head at yagna . Virabhadra and Kali disappeared . misareble mahadev came and crying for sati . he take sati body but Mahakali said Vishnu cut this body for Birth of shakti . Vishnu cut her bodies in 52 pieces and each piece became Shakti-peeth . Gauri realized his mistake and returned with Shiva . everyone welcomed parwati .

Sumbha and nisumbha planned how trapped parwati at forest. they meet Daruk , a demon . sumbha said his wife Daruka is devotee of Shakti. Daruk said Daruka that new shakti came in world . in kailash parwati upset to know she will be become Kali to kill sumbha-nishumbha so Shiva try to convince her .

Daruka called parwati . Shiva said parwati to meet her devotee

The story presumably continues with her realizing her potential and that she is the Primodial Force (God) and leading to the death of the unrighteous (including Shumbh and Nishumbh).

Mahakali - Anth Hi Aarambh Hai traces this journey of how the humanly wife of the lord Shiva, Parvati discovers her power and her existence as Adi Shakti of which she herself was unaware.

Promos

The promos were well received and gained positive response, especially from the fans of Mahakali a.k.a Pooja Sharma. The very first promo featured introduced Kali, starting with her foot in a bloodbath, her reddening eyes, walking around, showing the outfit and finally her full face is revealed with her tongue sticking out of her mouth. She's then shown standing on a mountain peak with 8 arms holding various weapons. The face-revealing part was used for the opening theme. The second promo was the comparison between the demure, soft and motherly Parvati and her angry, warrior counterpart, Mahakali. The promo starts with Parvati picking a magical flower and putting it in her tresses compared to the wild dense hair of Mahakali. Parvati is adorned with gold ornaments of culture while Mahakali is adorned with a garland of skulls, offending all social standards. Parvati's beautiful eyes become Mahakali's blood-pigmented eyes. Finally she is shown amidst a blood covered battlefield surrounded by the demons she's killed, in her traditional multi armed form. The third promo showed a war scene going on between the demi-gods and the asuras while a worried Parvati is watching above on a cliff. Filled with rage Parvati transforms into a dark-skinned Mahakali and attacks the asuras. The fourth promo, were a great surprise for the fans of Saurabh Raj Jain, since it featured him as Shiva. An enraged Mahakali is doing the tandav dance and she calms down once Shiva is under her feet. With one feet on the chest on her husband and her tongue sticking out of her mouth, the signature posture of Kali-Shiva is created.
