Madison Packer (born June 25, 1991) is an American professional ice hockey player. Packer served as an alternate captain for the New York Riveters of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) for the franchise's first two seasons before retiring.

Career

In college, Packer played ice hockey for the University of Wisconsin, helping the club win a NCAA Division I national championship in 2011. During her final season, Packer was an alternate captain for her college team.[1]

NWHL

During the inaugural NWHL season of 2015/16, Packer signed a professional contract with the New York Riveters to play as a forward. In early 2016, Packer became one of the first players to re-sign with the New York Riveters for the 2016/17 NWHL season alongside Morgan Fritz-Ward, signing a $15,000 one-year contract.[2] Packer served as an alternate captain for the New York Riveters and was announced as the team's official You Can Play ambassador in August 2016.[3]

Packer was selected to play in two league All-Star Games, having played in the 2016 All-Star Game and voted in by fans for the 2017 All-Star Game in February 2017.[4][5] Playing for Team Steadman, Packer scored twice at the 2nd NWHL All-Star Game.[6]

Following the 2016/17 season, Packer announced her retirement from professional ice hockey on 19 March 2017.[7][8]

College

Packer attended the University of Wisconsin- Madison on a full athletic scholarship from 2010-2014. In her time as a Badger she competed in three Frozen Fours, capturing a National title in 2011. Packer recorded 46 goals and 58 assists in 132 games and served as an assistant captain her senior year.

Team USA

Packer attended National Development Camps in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Packer was a team member of the U.S. Women's U-18 Team in 2008 and 2009, serving as alternate captain in 2009. She was two-time International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's U18 Championships participant in 2009 in Fussen, Germany and 2008 in Calgary, Alberta, capturing Gold medals both times. Attended several National Team camps throughout her high school and college Career.

Prep

Competed for the Girls U19 AAA Little Caesars hockey team in Detroit. Packer is a four-time Michigan State Champion, USA Hockey National Tournament bronze medal winner as a freshman in 2007 and silver medal winner as a sophomore in 2008. During her senior year, Packer tallied a career-high 98 goals in 60 games while also adding 53 assists.

Personal

Parents are Gregory and Laura Packer, has two brothers, Spencer and Bennett, and a sister Daryn.
