Maddox Gallery is an art gallery in London's Mayfair that opened on 10 November 2015. Maddox Gallery is managed by James Nicholls[1] and shows work by artists including Tyler Shields.
Location
Maddox Gallery is situated at 9 Maddox Street, Mayfair, W1S 2QE.[2] It is housed over four floors of a Victorian townhouse which has been renovated to show the gallery's modern art collection.
Following a highly successful first year, Maddox Gallery announced the opening of its second London gallery space. Maddox Gallery at Bankrobber, at 5 Shepherd Street in Mayfair’s Shepherd Market, officially opened on 8 December 2016.[3]
Controversies
In April 2016, Maddox Gallery displayed the controversial naked picture of Donald Trump, entitled Make America Great Again, by the Los Angeles-based artist Ilma Gore.[4] The pastel piece had been banned from public display in the US and removed from Facebook for breaching the site’s nudity ban. Gore is also said to have received death threats.[5]
Maddox Gallery also featured on international news channels in August 2016. UK artist Bran Symondson was prevented from bringing his artworks fashioned from decommissioned AK-47 assault rifles into the US, where they were due to be shown at a pop-up exhibition in Houston.[6]
