The Macropodus erythropterusis a species of paradise fishes (Macropodus) endemic to Southern China. This species was first discovered in Hongkong, but later was found in Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi. Found in the mountainous regions as well as lowland habitats. This species grows to a length of more than 10cm.
Like other Macropodus,M. hongkongensis is popular in Chinese fish keeper and is called as "Hongkong black paradisefish (Chinese:香港黑叉尾斗鱼 or HK黑. This fish is easy to keep and breed in aquarium.
