In 1995, the name was changed from Diocesan Catholic Girls High School to MacKillop College in honour of Saint Mary MacKillop.

On 9 August 2007 it was announced that the College's boarding house at St Josephs College, Perthville would be closing by the end of 2008 however it was later announced on 4 June 2008 that MacKillop College and the Catholic Education Office would jointly acquire SJC, making MacKillop College a day and boarding College. It is the only Catholic girls boarding school in rural NSW.
