MIT Institute of Design is a design school situated in Loni Kalbhor, Pune, Maharashtra, India. It was established by the MAEER Group and is a part of the MIT University of Art, Design and Technology. The Institute is part of the Design habitat situated on the famous Rajbaug farms near the banks of Mula-Mutha river and is spread over 125 acres (0.51 km2).

History

The school was established in 2006 as an autonomous college under the MAEER group. In 2016 it was incorporated into the MIT University, Pune. The college first offered Product Design courses in 2006 and later grew to add mroe courses in its offerings.

The institute offers Graduate and Postgraduate level courses, namely Graduate Diploma Program (GDP)[1] Postgraduate Diploma Program (PGDP)[2] in various concentrations

Facilities

MIT Institute of design maintains a campus within the MIT University and consists of a main academic building and a hostel for Girls and Boys each.

Academic Wing

The Academic wing houses classrooms and studio space, multiple computer labs, a model shop with traditional tools as well as rapid prototyping technologies (multi-axis CNC, laser-cutting, and multiple types of 3D printing), painting facilities.

MIT University

The University houses sporting facilities (Olympic size swimming pool, gymnasium, football ground, cricket ground), a fully staffed hospital, a convention center and grounds.

Culture

1874

"1874" is MITID's annual Design Festival[4]

It is a massive fest spanning a week filled with a delightful mélange of International Workshops and Seminars, Design and fun - filled Events, Cultural Evening, Installations, Merchandising and Exhibitions. 1874 aims at bringing together our family of over 1,100 members, facilitating interactions between various design schools and firms across the country.

iDid - Design Store

iDid is MIT ID's very own design store and a student initiative, founded in 2009. It is an avenue for learners to showcase their ideas and concepts and take it to the next level. iDid aims at establishing itself by having a retail store, multiple outlets in future and having its own incubation centre.

H!VE - Official Newsletter[5]

H!VE is MIT-ID's newsletter that has been running since 2009. An initiative that started as a 2-page newsletter has now grown to become a 16-page booklet and has also spanned into the digital media with an archive blog dedicated to prose and news in MIT-ID.

24fps

24 fps, a perennial student initiative, showcases great films spanning various genres and regions from across the globe, thus engaging learners with new cultures and ideologies; contributing to the evolution of a unique design culture at MIT ID.
