The MG ZS also known as the MG XS in the United Kingdom, is a sports utility vehicle (SUV) produced by the Chinese owned, British automotive marque MG Motor. The MG ZS is the second SUV produced by MG Motor, after the larger MG GS, which was launched in April 2015. The MG ZS notably uses the name of the earlier MG ZS, which was based on the Rover 45, and was produced by MG Motor's predecessors MG Rover from 2001 to 2005.
About
The MG ZS was announced in 2016, at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The MG ZS marked MG Motor's second venture into the crossover/SUV market. It is intended to sit below the larger MG GS, but larger than the smaller MG 3.[1] The MG ZS was subsequently launched in China, in March 2017.
The MG ZS is to be announced at the London Motor Show in May 2017 for the United Kingdom, and production will commence in the end 2017. The MG ZS SUV was also shown at the Auto Shanghai Motor Show in April 2017, alongside the new concept MG E-Motion.[2] To avoid confusion with the previous MG ZS, it was announced the ZS SUV was to be called XS in the United Kingdom.[3]
A plug-in hybrid, electric version is to follow.
Engines
Initial models are powered by two petrol engines. An updated SMTC developed engine, known as the NSE Plus, will be making its way into the new MG ZS, the updated NSE engine is to have 120PS and 150Nm torque. The second engine is a turbocharged three cylinder engine, developed by SAIC in conjunction with General Motors. It produces 125PS and 175Nm torque.[4]
