M9 motorway (Pakistan)

The M-9 (Urdu: موٹروے 9‎) is a 136-km long 6-lane under construction motorway connecting the cities of Hyderabad and Karachi in the Sindh province of Pakistan. It is a part of Pakistan's Motorways Network.

Conversion into M-9 Motorway

The route was formerly referred to as the Super Highway and is in the process of being upgraded into a 6-lane access-controlled motorway, designated the "M-9". Construction on the upgrade began in March 2015. The project is part of a package of development under the aegis of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. Expression of Interest (EOI) were invited by the National Highway Authority (NHA) in May 2011^[1] The NHA awarded the Rs. 24.93 billion contract to the Malaysian construction company, Bina Puri Holdings Bhd, on Built Operate Transfer (BOT) basis.^[2] The proposed 136-km long motorway will be completed in three years. The M-9 Motorway will have 20 interchanges, 2 service areas at the midway points and 16 toll plazas on entry and exit points.^[3] A 75 km stretch of M9 motorway was inaugurated and open to public on Feb 3, 2017.
