Pulsant is an internet service provider (ISP) in the United Kingdom that focuses on colocation, cloud, managed hosting, and managed network services.[1]

History

Established in 1995 as EdNET, an ISP, the company was rebranded as Lumison in 2004[2]. Lumison was acquired by Bridgepoint Development Capital in 2010[3] and Pulsant was formed in 2011, following the integration of Lumison, a managed service provider; Dedipower, a managed hosting company; and Bluesquare Data, a datacentre operator.[4][5][6]

Pulsant acquired Scottish-based colocation company ScoLocate in 2012.[7]

The company was refinanced by Oak Hill Capital in 2014[8]. In 2015 Pulsant acquired the consulting arm of Spinnaker Red[9], and in 2016 acquired IT infrastructure services company Onyx.[10]

Datacentre locations

Pulsant owns several datacentres across multiple locations throughout the UK. These include three sites in Scotland, Glasgow, South Gyle and Newbridge, as well as six in England; Sheffield, Newcastle, Maidenhead, South London, Milton Keynes and Reading.

The company occupies space in facilities in New York, Dallas, Boston, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Frankfurt.[11]

Pulsant’s South Gyle facility in Edinburgh hosts IXScotland, Scotland’s first dedicated internet exchange.[12]

Royal Warrant

Pulsant received the Royal Warrant in 2013 as a provider of hosted IT and datacentre services to the British Royal Household. [13]

Accreditations

Pulsant is certified to ISO27001, ISO14001 and ISO9001 across all operations and holds a level 1 PCI-DSS validation for physical security at three of its sites. The company is also a Cyber Essentials Certifying Body, licensed to certify for Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus and IASME governance standard.[14]

In 2013 Pulsant was awarded CSA Star certification for cloud security by the British Standards Institution (BSI Group).[15][16]
