Eponym Lucian

Lucian is a tiny lunar impact crater that is located in the northeastern part of the Mare Tranquillitatis. The nearest named craters are Lyell to the east-southeast, Theophrastus and Franz to the northeast, Cauchy further south and Gardner to the north-northeast. A little farther to the north is Maraldi crater. Lucian was previously designated Maraldi B before being named by the IAU. 20 km west of the crater is Mons Esam and two other nearby smaller craters including Diana and Grace (the closest being over 15 km or more than two crater diameters) and further south the scarp known as Rima Cauchy.

This is a circular, cone-shaped formation with a negligible interior floor. It has not been significantly degraded by impact erosion.
