Love Live! School Idol Festival (ラブライブ! スクールアイドルフェスティバル Rabu Raibu! Sukūru Aidoru Fesutibaru) is a Japanese rhythm game developed by KLab and published by Bushiroad's Bushimo for Android and iOS platforms, which first released in Japan on April 15, 2013 (Android) and June 8, 2013 (iOS).[1] The game features songs from the multimedia franchises Love Live! and Love Live! Sunshine!!, as well as newly introduced girls and original stories of μ's and Aqours members that are not included in other media.
About
Love Live! School Idol Festival, often abbrivated as LLSIF or Sukufesu (スクフェス), is free to play with an in-app purchase system. The game is a collectible card game with elements of rhythm game and visual novel genres. The game was localized into English and released worldwide on May 11, 2014 for both iOS and Android devices,[2] and also received localizations available in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea.[3] At the end of September 2016, the English version added Korean support due to merging between the two servers.[4] The Traditional Chinese version which was operated by Mobimon in Taiwan, Hongkong, and Macau was also merged to the English version as on May 18, 2017.[5]
In January, 2016, Love Live! Sunshine!! live streamed a special announcement regarding Aqours joining the app starting in July 2016.[6] In the game, Aqours get their own stories, new songs, and cards. KLab also added R rarity cards for each Aqours members, even though they were only voiced after July. In June 2016, Chika and Riko were featured in the in-game regular events for the first time.
In December 6, 2016, an arcade game adaptation of the game titled Love Live! School Idol Festival ~After School Activity~ was made by Square Enix and Bushiroad. The game lets players to collect Profile Cards and Member Cards. The name comes from the fact that the game is an arcade game, player will have to go to a game center to play that it gives an "after school" feeling.[7]
Gameplay
The game lets users experience two gameplay modes, Story and Live, as all nine members of the idol group μ's and Aqours. Players acquire a score in the rhythm "Live" mode, in which players tap circles at the proper time in order to receive a high score that can be placed on the leaderboard. The songs available in rhythm mode are songs that are already released.
In story mode, player work as μ's' and Aqours' helper and manage their training and schedule. The mode is full-voiced with all of the idols' voice actresses from the anime returning for the game. The player interacts with the girls as they live their lives as school idols.[1]
Players are able to acquire new cards, which called Members, by doing Lives or scouting through student scouting. They can be "idolized" by combining two same cards. Idolizing a member will unlock a side story. These cards are divided into 5 rarities: N (normal), R (rare), SR (super rare), SSR (super super rare), and UR (ultra rare). Each rarity except N rarity has a different leader skill (passive) and active skill. Cards and songs are also divided into attributes that represent each cards' idol type: Smile, Cool, and Pure.
Besides μ's and Aqours, some girls are also introduced as N rarity cards. Each schools: Seiran High School, Chitose Bridge High School, Sinonome Institute, Tooh Academy, Shion Women Institute, and Y.G. International Academy are each represented by 9 idols.
Some elements in the game include:
- LP, a stamina used when doing a Live. One song can use up to 25LP depending on song's difficulty. One LP will refilled every 6 minutes,
- G, the app's in-game currency,
- Love Gems (ラブカストーン, Loveca Stone), the app's in-game currency which can be bought with money. It is can be used for refilled the entire LP bar, scouting R, SR, SSR, and UR rarity cards, or continuing a failed Live, and
- Friends points (友情pt), a point that can be acquired by having other player helped you during the Live. Friends points can be used to scouts N and R rarity cards.
In-game events
Every 15 days, an in-game event with total of 4 SR cards[lower-alpha 1] as prize is held. Each event runs for 10 days with 5 days break. The SR cards are obtainable by collecting the event points and competing with other players for players with most event points, which called tier.
The game has currently 6 type of events:
- Token Collection (アイコンコレクション), where players collecting event-specific tokens from regular songs to play the event-exclusive song,[8]
- Score Match (スコアマッチ), where 4 players will have to compete against three other players to get the most high score,[8]
- Medley Festival (メドレーフェスティバル), where players can play up to three songs in row and using some buffs to enhance their score and prize,[8]
- Challenge Festival (チャレンジフェスティバル),
- Oshanpo Rally (おさんぽラリー), and
- Nakayoshi Match (なかよしマッチ), where 4 players work together to reach certain missions by playing live shows.
Perfect Dream Project
In March 2017, the official website of Love Live School Idol Festival launched a new project called "Perfect Dream Project," which featured 9 new girls. Emma, Kanata Konoe, and Shizuku Ōsaka were three members who were already featured as N rarity girls and topped the 3rd popularity poll.[9][10] The remaining 6 girls was later introduced: Ayumu Uehara, Kasumi Nakasu, Karin Asaka, Ai Miyashita, Setsuna Yuki, and Rinna Tennoji. KLab and Bushiroad's website teases that the companies will reveal the voice actresses for the nine characters in the future.[11] The members are being split up into groups of three to begin activities in three different apps before their addition to the game: Dengeki Online (Kasumi Nakasu, Karin Asaka, Yuki Setsuna), Famitsu App (Ayumu Uehara, Ai Miyashita, Rina Tennoji), and the game's app (Emma, Shizuku Osaka, Kanata Konoe). Each app is working as a separate room or branch office for the Nijigasaki Academy, the school of the new 9 girls.[12]
Reception
As of June 8, 2017, the Japanese version of the game has reached one million downloads.[13]
