Loren Smith (character)

Loren Smith is a fictional character in a series of novels by Clive Cussler. She first appears in the novel Vixen 03.

She is a congresswoman from Colorado, and is a longtime companion to Dirk Pitt, an adventurous special project director for NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency), he undergoes many death-defying missions to save the world and the marine environment.

Described as having beautiful cinnamon brown hair with violet colored eyes, and a good sense of humor, Loren Smith plays a strong role in quite a few of Cussler's novels. She is also known for her great style, preferring simple but very feminine looks. Her signature is matching her briefcase to the exact color she is wearing. In Trojan Odyssey, Loren finally marries Dirk Pitt.

In Treasure of Khan, she displays a tolerant, even somewhat encouraging attitude of her husband's travels abroad, realizing he can't be happy cooped up in an office. She also violated a customs law by sending the trusty model 1911 Colt .45 caliber pistol to Dirk, who is in Mongolia.
