Loot Drop is a social video game studio based in San Mateo, California.[1] It was created by John Romero and Tom Hall with its COO being Brenda Romero.[2] Its tagline is "Believe in fun".[1]
The studio got funding from social game publisher RockYou in 2011.[2] At that time, it had four titles in development.[2] Romero stated that he wanted to focus on game design rather than monetizing players.[2] The studio was stated to have three teams that would grow to 10 or 11 employees each.[1]
The studio encountered financial trouble in 2012, with the game Ghost Recon Commander being cancelled only five months after launch.[3] They also failed to fund a Kickstarter campaign for an "Old-School RPG".[3] This resulted in one of the studio's development teams being laid off.[3]
However, the studio remained solvent and continued developing games. By 2014, it had developed games for Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Zynga.[4]
