Elections
Elections to the local bodies in Uttarakhand, held once in five years, are conducted by Uttarakhand State Election Commission. Both direct and indirect elections apply for local bodies.[1] Direct election posts include:
- Urban Bodies
- Municipal Corporation: Mayor
- Municipal Council/Town Panchayat: Chairperson
- Municipal Corporation: Corpotaror
- Municipal Council: Councillor
- Town Panchayat: Ward Member
- Rural Bodies
- Village Panchayat: President
- District Panchayat/Panchayat Union/Village Panchayat: Ward Member
Indirect election posts include Chairpersons of District Panchayats and Panchayat Unions, Deputy Mayor of Corporations, Vice-Chairpersons of Municipal Councils and Town Panchayats. Various statutory/standing committees are also elected by the way of indirect elections.
