Elections

Elections to the local bodies in Uttarakhand, held once in five years, are conducted by Uttarakhand State Election Commission. Both direct and indirect elections apply for local bodies.[1] Direct election posts include:

  1. Municipal Corporation: Mayor
  2. Municipal Council/Town Panchayat: Chairperson
  3. Municipal Corporation: Corpotaror
  4. Municipal Council: Councillor
  5. Town Panchayat: Ward Member
  1. Village Panchayat: President
  2. District Panchayat/Panchayat Union/Village Panchayat: Ward Member

Indirect election posts include Chairpersons of District Panchayats and Panchayat Unions, Deputy Mayor of Corporations, Vice-Chairpersons of Municipal Councils and Town Panchayats. Various statutory/standing committees are also elected by the way of indirect elections.
