List of starting quarterbacks in the National Football League
In American football, the starting quarterback is typically viewed as the leader of a team.[1] The quarterback is considered the most important position on the field and among the most important positions in team sports.[2][3] They are among the most high-profile athletes in the world, and have been described as "akin to A-list celebrities".[4] The success of an NFL franchise often rests on the quarterback; thus, teams will go to great lengths to find a "franchise quarterback" to build around for the long term.[5]
Tom Brady holds the record for most wins by a starting NFL quarterback, with 201, a record formerly held by Peyton Manning.[6] Manning is tied with Brett Favre for the most regular season wins by an NFL quarterback, with 186.[7] Favre also holds the record for most consecutive starts by an NFL quarterback. From September 27, 1992, to December 5, 2010, Favre started a total of 297 regular season games and 24 playoff games, totaling 321 consecutive games.[8][9] The longest active streak of consecutive starts is held by New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning at 179 starts, with his first start coming on November 21, 2004.[10][11]
