On 3 June 1842 Vansittart, Lyon, master, was in the harbour at Bombay ready for a voyage to China. At 2.a.m. a fire was discovered. Despite every assistance from steam and other vessels, "this fine ship was destroyed under very suspicious circumstances." Several lives were lost.[2] |
