- HMS Rambler ( United Kingdom): Algerine-class gunvessel launched by John Elder & Co, Glasgow for the Royal Navy.

- Columbia ( United States): coastal passenger liner launched by John Roach & Sons, Chester, Pennsylvania for the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company. She was the first commercial usage of Thomas Edison's incandescent light bulb.[2]
