Location of the top twenty most visited art museums.

This article lists the most visited art museums in the world. It includes notable museums where the display of art is the primary purpose, but it does not include sites which are primarily palaces, such as the Forbidden City in Beijing and the Palace of Versailles near Paris, nor museums which contain art but have another primary purpose, such as the Natural History Museum, London. The top twenty museums are reported from the 2016 Museum Index of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and engineering firm (AECOM), published in June 2017. Other major sources include the Art Newspaper Review Visitor Figures 2016 (April, 2017) the annual survey of the British Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA), the Paris Visitors and Convention Bureau, and other national sources.
