List of fictional crossovers
This article comprises a list of fictional crossovers that have occurred between different fictional characters/properties over different media. It does not include unofficial or fanmade crossovers.
Major general crossovers
Most of these crossovers can be assumed to be in continuity for one or both of the characters or universes involved, although the events of the crossover may not be mentioned afterward by either party. See fictional universe for more closely linked crossovers. Many spinoffs cross over with their parent series or originated as a one-time crossover. This section also does not list brief minor appearances, which are covered in the "gag cameo" section.
Television
Arrowverse
- Barry Allen of The Flash first appeared in a 2 part episode of Arrow, Season 2 Episodes 8 and 9 "The Scientist" and "The Three Ghosts" the latter of which ended with the character getting struck by lightning during the Particle Accelerator Explosion, which would then be picked up in The Flash.
- Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow also first appear in Season 2 Episode 19 of Arrow "The Man Under the Hood" where they update Barry's condition of being in a coma (first mentioned in Episode 10 "Blast Radius") and mention Iris West for the first time.
- Season 3 Episode 1 of Arrow "The Calm" features The Arrow answering a phone call from Barry Allen, who he would then meet up with The Flash Pilot and inspire him to become The Flash.
- Felicity appears in Episode 4 of The Flash "Going Rogue".
- The first annual crossover of The Flash and Arrow aired in December 2014 in both shows 8th episodes "The Flash vs Arrow" and "The Brave and the Bold" featuring 2 separate storylines with some connectivity.
- Felicity and Ray Palmer appear on The Flash Episode 18 "All Star Team Up" where Ray gets help with his ATOM suit. Cisco appeared on Arrow Episode 19 "Broken Arrow".
- Black Canary and Captain Lance appear on The Flash Episode 19 "Who is Harrison Wells?" when Joe and Cisco travel to Starling City to research Harrison Wells.
- Oliver Queen appears in The Flash Episode 22 "Rogue Air" which leads into Barry Allen appearing in the Season 3 finale of Arrow "My Name Is Oliver Queen".
- The second Annual Crossover The Flash and Arrow aired in December 2015 in both shows 8th episodes "Legends of Today" and "Legends of Yesterday" in one cohesive storyline where the characters team up to defeat Vandal Savage and setting up the spinoff series DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
- Characters introduced in both Arrow and The Flash now have starring roles in the spin-off series DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The characters of Green Arrow and Black Canary, from Arrow, also appear in the pilot episode.
- Barry Allen of The Flash crosses over from the Arrowverse to Supergirl in "Worlds Finest".[4]
- John Constantine, the title character of Constantine, is called in by Oliver Queen on Arrow in the episode "Haunted" when things go worse for Sara Lance, who has been resurrected in the Lazarus Pit.
- Felicity appears in Season 3 Episode 2 of The Flash "Paradox" where it is revealed that Flashpoint has changed Diggle's child from Sara Diggle to John Diggle Jr.
- The Green Arrow appears in the Season 2 Premiere of DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
- The Third Annual crossover of The Flash and Arrow aired in December 2016 and features characters from Supergirl and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The 4-night crossover starts at the end of Season 2 Episode 8 of "Medusa", and then goes over the 3 part "Invasion!", episodes 8 of The Flash and Arrow, as well as episode 7 of DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
- There will be a 2-part musical episode of The Flash and Supergirl.
Jerry Bruckheimer Productions
- A November 7, 2005 episode of CSI: Miami continues on an episode of CSI: NY on November 9.
- The characters from CSI: New York were first introduced on a second-season episode of CSI: Miami in May 2004. Miami was also introduced via crossover in the second season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. and Cyber was also introduced on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in its 14th Season
- A three-way crossover with all 3 CSI shows occurred the week of November 8, 2009.
- CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: NY have a cross-over story on their respective shows February 6 & 8, 2013. Mac Taylor visits Las Vegas on the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode "In Vito Veritas". The storyline continues on CSI: NY episode "Seth and Apep", with D.B. Russell heading to New York.
- On May 2, 2007 in the CSI: New York episode "Cold Reveal", Danny Pino appeared as his Cold Case character Scotty Valens as he traveled to New York. The CSI shows, Cold Case, and Without a Trace all air on CBS and are produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
- CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Without a Trace had a crossover story that aired on November 8, 2007. "Without a Trace's" Jack Malone guests on "CSI", which continues on "Without a Trace" with Gil Grissom crossing over from "CSI".
- After the end of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation on September 27, 2015, Ted Danson's character, D.B. Russell, became part of the cast of CSI: Cyber at the start of the second season on October 4, 2015.
Must See TV
- Ursula from Mad About You is revealed to be the twin sister of Phoebe Buffay on Friends. Helen Buchman and Fran Devanow appear on Friends in part one of "The One With Two Parts".
- Phoebe Buffay of Friends appears on Hope & Gloria.
- Five characters from Cheers appear on three episodes of Wings.
- In "The Story of Joe", Cliff Clavin and Norm Peterson come to Nantucket on a fishing trip.
- In "Planes, Trains and Visiting Cranes", Frasier and Lilith Crane come to Nantucket for a seminar on self-esteem.
- In "I Love Brian", Rebecca Howe is taken out of Clint Black's apartment.
- Many characters from Cheers have appeared on the spin-off series Frasier.
- Frasier's ex-wife Lilith is a recurring character beginning in "The Show Where Lilith Comes Back".
- Sam Malone comes to Seattle in "The Show Where Sam Shows Up" to tell Frasier about his fiancee supposedly cheating on him.
- Diane Chambers comes to Seattle in "The Show Where Diane Comes Back" to stage a play and make amends with Frasier for leaving him at the altar.
- Woody Boyd comes to Seattle in "The Show Where Woody Shows Up" to catch up on old times with Frasier.
- Frasier bumps into Cliff, Carla and Norm in "Cheerful Goodbyes" while visiting Boston.
- An episode of Mad About You named after The Alan Brady Show, the show-within-a-show on The Dick Van Dyke Show, is about Paul Buchman convincing Alan Brady to narrate a documentary about television.
- Dr. Frasier Crane of Frasier appears on an episode of The John Larroquette Show.
- Crosby Braverman (Dax Shepard) from Parenthood appears on two episodes of About a Boy, while Will Freeman from About a Boy appears on an episode of Parenthood.
TGIF
- Steve Urkel of Family Matters visits Full House and helps Mark in Step by Step. This actually does create a conflict when John Stamos appears as himself on Step by Step, mentioning his role on Full House as Jesse Katsopolis.
- Michelle Tanner of Full House appeared on an early episode of Hangin' with Mr. Cooper.
- On Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Salem swallows a time ball causing everyone—as well as Boy Meets World, You Wish and Teen Angel—to travel back in time.
CBS Shameless Monday
- Ray Romano (Ray Barone) of Everybody Loves Raymond has appeared on The King of Queens. Kevin James had also appeared on Everybody Loves Raymond as a Friend of Ray's (2x05 'Golf'), before also appearing as Doug Heffernan later in the run.
- Ray Romano has also appeared as Fran Fine's old classmate in The Nanny, where Fran (played by series star Fran Drescher) attends her high school reunion. (Romano and Drescher were in fact real-life classmates at Hillcrest High School in Queens, New York.)
- Frank and Ray Barone (played by Peter Boyle and Ray Romano) appeared on an episode of Cosby, as did Doug Heffernan (played by Kevin James).
- Hilton Lucas (played by Bill Cosby of Cosby), Doug Heffernan of The King of Queens, and Frank and Ray Barone of Everybody Loves Raymond were in Becker's doctor's office on Becker.
Two to three-part episodes
- Dr. Kildare had an episode that concluded on The Eleventh Hour.
- Ben Casey helped launch Breaking Point.
- Marcus Welby, M.D. had two episodes that concluded on Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law.
- Ironside had an episode that concluded on The Bold Ones: The New Doctors.
- Booker and 21 Jump Street have a two-part episode about the take-down of a corrupt businessman.
- Third Watch had two crossovers: one beginning on ER and the other concluding on Medical Investigation.
- Characters from George Lopez interacted with those from Freddie in episodes on both shows as part of a continuing one-night story.
- Characters from The District and The Agency appeared on each other's show when an episode of The District continued on an episode of The Agency.
- Sammo Hung, the star of Martial Law and Chuck Norris, the star of Walker, Texas Ranger appeared on each other's shows as a two-part crossover episode. Sammo also appeared as his character on an episode of Early Edition.
- That's So Raven, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and Hannah Montana all meet up at The Tipton Hotel in the episode That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana.
- Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana is a trilogy of crossover episodes between three Disney Channel original sitcoms which premiered in the United States on July 17, 2009. The crossover spanned across episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place, The Suite Life on Deck, and Hannah Montana.
- Lab Rats and Mighty Med had a one-hour crossover special entitled "Lab Rats vs. Mighty Med".
- The Practice had crossovers with Ally McBeal, Boston Public and Gideon's Crossing. What was unique about the crossovers with Ally McBeal and Boston Public was that the former went from FOX to ABC and the latter from ABC to FOX.
- The Pretender and Profiler had a two-part episode.
- Characters from the Disney Channel original series Good Luck Charlie and Shake It Up both appeared in a special crossover episode entitled "Charlie Shakes It Up", which aired on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
- Characters from the Nickelodeon shows iCarly and Victorious appeared together in a special crossover event entitled iParty with Victorious, which aired on Saturday, June 11, 2011.
- NCIS: Los Angeles agent Kensi Blye crosses over to Hawaii Five-0 on the October 21, 2011 episode, "The Good Fight". A crossover also occurs with both shows on Hawaii Five-0 April 30, 2012, continuing on NCIS: Los Angeles May 1, both episodes titles "Touch Of Death".
- Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med have had crossovers with each other and with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, putting the Chicago franchise in the Law & Order universe.
- Dr. Temperance Brennan and FBI Agent Seeley Booth of Bones collaborate with Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills Sleepy Hollow on a case involving a 200-year-old headless corpse and the forces of Pandora.[1]
- The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have a two-part episode where Stefan goes on the run and finds safe haven in New Orleans, only to bump into Klaus.[2]
- Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl have a crossover where Jake Peralta chases a suspect by commandeering a car being driven by Jess Day, who's visiting New York for Schmidt's high school homecoming.[3]
Daytime
- Many daytime soap operas have had numerous crossovers over the years, particularly the ones that air on ABC. The baby switch storyline on ABC Daytime soap operas All My Children and One Life to Live is one such example. When All My Children debuted in 1970, ABC had Michael Storm's Dr. Larry Wolek from One Life to Live appear on All My Children for a few episodes. When Procter & Gamble canceled Another World in 1999, several characters appeared on As the World Turns.
Interactions between related shows
- The two shows Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, have numerous crossovers between individual series through episodes and cinema release films, both are produced by Toei Co., Ltd., Toei Agency and Bandai, and aired by TV Asahi (Kamen Rider used to be aired on Mainichi Broadcasting System and NET TV).
- Both Lucille Ball and Ann Sothern have had crossovers on each other's shows- In 1957, with Sothern appearing as her character, Susie MacNamara, from Private Secretary on Ball's show, the I Love Lucy sequel, The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. In 1959, Ball's character Lucy Richardo, appeared on Sothern's second show, The Ann Sothern Show.
- Buddy Sorrell of The Dick Van Dyke Show appears on an episode of The Danny Thomas Show.
- The Pendrottis of To Rome with Love meet Buffy Davis, Jody Davis and Giles French of Family Affair in "Roman Affair" and Robbie Douglas, Katie Miller Douglas and Uncle Charley Douglas of My Three Sons in "Rome is Where You Find It".
- Cast members from Sesame Street and The Electric Company appeared in crossovers as themselves and in character.
- The respective police departments and the District Attorney's office in Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: Trial By Jury, Law & Order: Los Angeles, New York Undercover, Conviction and Homicide: Life on the Street have occasionally had crossover episodes; Richard Belzer's character, John Munch has become the only fictional character, played by a single actor, to appear on ten different television shows.
- Characters from Happy Days have had interactions with characters from their spin-off series, particularly with Laverne & Shirley. There is even a two-part episode between Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley entitled "Shotgun Wedding".
- Officers Malloy and Reed of Adam-12 work with Paul Ryan of The D.A. to have a radical tried and convicted of setting off explosives in Los Angeles.
- The title characters of The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman had several interactions with one another. "The Return of Bigfoot" was a two-part episode between them and "Kill Oscar" was a three-part episode.
- Characters from both Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer visit each other in their respective series.
- Frank Cannon, the title characater of Cannon, appears on the first episode of Barnaby Jones. Afterwards, Cannon has an episode that concludes on Barnaby Jones.
- Magnum, P.I. started two crossovers that concluded on two different series - Simon & Simon and Murder She Wrote.
- The characters of Dallas occasionally interacted with those of spin-off series Knots Landing. The two shows even had a crossover storyline regarding Jock Ewing's will.
- The characters of Crossing Jordan and Las Vegas made crossover appearances.
- Characters from Chicago Hope appeared, from the show's set, on an episode of Picket Fences.
- Bud Roberts of CBS's JAG appeared on an episode of NCIS on CBS during its first season, which is a spin-off of JAG. he reappeared in season 14.
- John M. Jackson reprised his JAG character A. J. Chegwidden on the season 10 finale of NCIS, May 16, 2013, 9 years after JAG ended. He also appeared on NCIS: Los Angeles, February 19, 2017 episode.
- The characters of Grace Under Fire, Coach, The Drew Carey Show and Ellen all meet in Las Vegas.
- Characters of Touched by an Angel and its spinoff Promised Land have appeared on each other's shows, even an episode of Touched by an Angel that continued on Promised Land.
- Characters from Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager have met each other. (See Star Trek crossovers)
- Two of the characters from Civil Wars moved to Los Angeles and became part of the cast of L.A. Law after Civil Wars was canceled.
- Eb from Green Acres appeared on the Beverly Hillbillies, in spite of once acting in a Hooterville Production of the TV show.
- Characters of Green Acres and Petticoat Junction have appeared on each other's shows. Characters from Petticoat Junction have also crossed over to The Beverly Hillbillies.
- Some characters from The Cosby Show appeared on its spin-off A Different World, sometimes only seen talking on the phone from the set of The Cosby Show. Rudy, Vanessa, Theo, and Claire from The Cosby Show have appeared on A Different World.
- Some of the girls from The Facts of Life have appeared on Diff'rent Strokes, mostly Tootie and Natalie of The Facts of Life. Mrs. Garrett had appeared on Diff'rent Strokes several years after leaving for The Facts of Life when she attended Phillip's and Maggie's wedding. Todd Bridges also appeared as Willis from Diff'rent Strokes on The Facts of Life.
- Diff'rent Strokes had crossover episodes with Hello, Larry.
- Lani McKenzie of Baywatch appears on an episode of Pacific Blue.
- Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess have numerous crossovers.
- The Inspector Gadget need the help of Mario and Luigi in the episode "Defective Gadgetry" of the live-action segment "Mario Bros. Plumbing" of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. Later, in the "Treasure of the Sierra Brooklyn" episode; the Inspector Gadget return to help the Mario Bros. to find a lost treasure.
- The Rangers (of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) met Prince Dex (the Masked Rider) for the first time in a multi-part episode from season 3. This acted as an indirect spin-off for Masked Rider.
- The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The Next Mutation version) met the Space Rangers in an episode of Power Rangers in Space.
- Tsukasa Kadoya / Kamen Rider Decade and his teammates Yuusuke Onodera / Kamen Rider Kuuga and Daiki Kaito / Kamen Rider Diend teams up with the cast of Samurai Sentai Shinkenger in two episodes of Kamen Rider Decade.
- Grey's Anatomy has three crossovers with its spin-off Private Practice.
- Rocky Carroll appears as NCIS director Leon Vance on NCIS , NCIS: Los Angeles, and NCIS: New Orleans. Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto) also crosses over as a guest star on the fifth and ninth episode of NCIS: Los Angeles, Michael Weatherly also guessed starred on the fifth episode in season 7 of NCIS Los Angeles. Several characters from NCIS have also crossed over on NCIS: New Orleans as well as those characters crossing over onto NCIS.
- Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt) of NCIS: Los Angeles appears on Scorpion, Episode 6: "True Colors".
- Tanya Turner, a character from British drama series Footballers Wives, appeared in three episodes of sister show Bad Girls.
- The cast of The Suite Life on Deck guest starred on an episode of I'm in the Band.
- The Doctor Who story The Stolen Earth and Journeys End feature characters from both of its spin-off series Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
- The Green Hornet and his sidekick, Kato, appeared on a two-part episode of Batman.
- On a Season 2 episode of Hannah Montana titled Take This Job and Love It, John D'Aquino and Madison Pettis appear as President Martinez and Sophie Martinez respectively. Both characters are from another Disney Channel show, Cory in the House.
- On November 9, 1991, a hurricane affected the characters of The Golden Girls, Empty Nest and Nurses. The sitcoms also experienced a full moon on Leap Day 1992.
- Kenan & Kel join the cast of Cousin Skeeter in the episode "Hoo, I'm Wild Wild West."
- In the Singaporean sitcom Living with Lydia, Lydia Lum had her first encounter with Phua Chu Kang in 1979 in a flashback episode that predated both Living with Lydia and Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd. Both characters later acknowledge that they knew each other towards the end of the episode after Phua shows up at Lydia's place in the present day.
- Once Upon a Time and its spin-off Once Upon a Time in Wonderland had several characters appeared on both shows, as they shared the same universe.
- Mike Baxter of Last Man Standing crosses over to Cristela in the episode "Last Goose Standing".
- Agent Peggy Carter of Agent Carter appeared in episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
- Claire Temple of Daredevil, appeared in an episode of Jessica Jones,Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
- Chin Ho, Kono and Kamekona of Hawaii Five-0 appear on an episode of MacGyver.[4]
- Joe Mantegna's character David Rossi from Criminal Minds" has appeared on the spin-off Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. Kirsten Vangsness has also been part of both spin-off series; Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior as Penelope Garcia.
International crossovers
- In a case in which a character from an American television series featured a character from a foreign television series that were based on a series that originated in another country, both Ugly Betty and its Mexican counterpart La fea más bella, (both of whom were based on the Colombian series Yo Soy Betty La Fea) accomplished this rare feat. The star of the Mexican version, Angélica Vale, was anticipated to make a cameo in the 22nd episode, playing Betty Suarez's (America Ferrera) "counterpart" from the series, Leticia 'Lety' Padilla Solís;[5] Vale instead appeared in the first-season finale playing Angelica, an orthodontist's assistant who looks exactly like Lety (pre-makeover).
- Another American series, Roseanne, featured the characters from the British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, Edina Monsoon (Jennifer Saunders) and Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley), meeting Roseanne Conner during their trip to New York.
- David Brent of The Office, played by series creator Ricky Gervais, appeared on the U.S. version of the show.
Finishing story plot lines
- Although her character on Soap was executed in the series' final episode/cliffhanger, Jessica Tate (Katherine Helmond) appeared as a ghost on Benson the following season in which she asked her former butler to help her do a good deed before entering heaven; she discovers that her human body was in a hospital (in a coma) and survived the execution before returning.
- George and Louise Jefferson of The Jeffersons go to marriage counseling with Will and his fiancée in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. They later appeared in the series finale along with Phillip Drummond and Arnold Jackson from Diff'rent Strokes.
- Arnold Jackson from Diff'rent Strokes appeared on Silver Spoons.
- Hillary Banks of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (played by Karyn Parsons) appeared on an episode of Blossom also playing Hilary Banks, who won a date auction with Tony sponsored by his EMT job.
- The Lone Gunmen A spin-off of The X-Files which lasted only one season and ended in a cliffhanger was resolved with an episode in the final season of The X-Files.
- Frank Black (Lance Henriksen), the main character from Millennium, appears in an episode of The X-Files ("Millennium") which wraps up the plot line of that canceled series.
- Jose Chung (Charles Nelson Reilly), a single-episode character who played a major role in an episode of The X-Files, plays a major role in an episode of Millennium.
- Mike Connors reprised his Mannix role on an episode of Diagnosis: Murder in 1997, with characters from a 1973 episode with flashbacks from that episode.
- Granny from The Beverly Hillbillies appeared on Petticoat Junction and Mister Ed.
- Rose Marie and Morey Amsterdam reprise their respective Dick Van Dyke roles of Sally Rogers and Buddy Sorrell on an episode of Herman's Head.
- Boston Legal had an episode where Steven Harper (Boston Public) appeared.
- Michael Gross, who played Steven Keaton on Family Ties, appeared as Steven on Day By Day.
- The Doctor (from Doctor Who) meets Death's Head numerous times in the comic of the same name
- Author Greg Cox, in a Star Trek media tie-in two-part novel The Eugenics Wars connected the character of Jarod from The Pretender with the organization that had created Khan Noonien Singh from the Star Trek episode "Space Seed". The Chrysalis Project was also credited with the creation of the "beast" Vincent, a man with leonine characteristics, from the CBS version of Beauty and the Beast. "Chrysalis" was also the name of a villainous agency in The Invisible Man.
- Captain Caveman, from his own series Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, was revealed to have originated from the Flintstones universe. See The Flintstone Comedy Show and The Flintstone Kids respectively for more details.
Animation
- Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck (from the Looney Tunes franchise), Huey, Dewey and Louie (from DuckTales), Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Smurfs, the Muppet Babies (Kermit, Piggy and Gonzo respectively), Slimer (from The Real Ghostbusters), ALF, Michelangelo (from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Garfield are all united to save a young boy, named Michael, from an eternity of drug abuse. (Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue)
- Ace Ventura meets The Mask (The Mask and Ace Ventura animated series), playing off of the fact that Ace Ventura and the Mask were both played in their respective films by Jim Carrey, who did not reprise his role for either cartoon.
- Characters from Tiny Toon Adventures have appeared on Animaniacs.
- Batman fights Count Dracula. (The Batman vs. Dracula)
- Mickey Mouse co-starred with Roger Rabbit, and then met the lead characters of NBC's Must See TV series Family Ties, Cheers and L.A. Law all the while when he was exiled from recognition by his family, friends and many fans. (Mickey's 60th Birthday)
- Lilo and Stitch: The Series featured a series of crossover episodes in which Lilo and Stitch encounter the main characters from many other Walt Disney Television Animation series, including The Proud Family, American Dragon: Jake Long, Recess, and Kim Possible. (Lilo and Stitch: The Series episodes "Morpholomew", "Spats", "Rufus" and "Lax".)
- Cartoon Network once unveiled a special crossover sci-fi horror event on May 28, 2007, entitled Cartoon Network Invaded, in which an alien invasion is in adjunct with the five Cartoon Network series Ed, Edd n' Eddy, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Camp Lazlo, and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.
- Static from Static Shock teams up with a variety of DC Comics heroes, including Superman, Batman, and at one time the members of the Justice League (except for Wonder Woman).

- Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys (both of which were owned by Stratemeyer Syndicate) first appeared together in 1978 in The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries TV show, and three years later, in 1981 they appeared in a novel together for the first time, titled Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys Super Sleuths!. - In the Kingdom Hearts series, there are Disney and Final Fantasy characters in the game. Most of the worlds are from Disney films, such as The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
- SNK's fighting game series The King of Fighters originally began as a crossover between characters from Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Psycho Soldier, and Ikari Warriors. The company later produced a similar game titled NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, which combines characters from further franchises such as Samurai Shodown, Metal Slug, and The Last Blade.
- In 1996, Capcom produced X-Men vs. Street Fighter, a fighting game crossover between Marvel's X-Men and Capcom's Street Fighter franchises. This eventually evolved into the Marvel vs. Capcom series, which included a greater range of characters from companies' properties.
- Multiple Mario characters competing against each other in sports and bringing Pac-Man (Mario Kart Arcade GP) and Final Fantasy (Mario Hoops 3-on-3) characters.
- The presence of Aiai from Super Monkey Ball, Ulala from Space Channel 5, and Nights from Nights into Dreams... in Sonic Riders.
- Most games developed by Nippon Ichi Software have characters fight, or at least encounter, other first-party characters in optional side quests.
- Multiple fighting game characters (currently Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Tekken) are pitted against each other (Epic Battles).
- DreamMix TV World Fighters features characters from Takara, Hudson Soft, and Konami, fighting against each other in Smash Bros. esque matches.
- Ganbarion's Jump Super Stars series on the Nintendo DS and 8ing/Q Entertainment's Battle Stadium D.O.N features Shounen Jump characters facing off against each other in Smash Bros. esque matches.
- Nicktoons Unite! is a Nickelodeon crossover featuring the shows SpongeBob SquarePants, The Fairly OddParents, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and Danny Phantom. 3 sequels were made called "Battle for Volcano Island", "Attack of the Toybots", and "Globs of Doom". Before that, various multiple Nicktoons characters had already met with each other, having to compete in party bashes, fighting tournaments, sports and racing competitions in a few other Nickelodeon crossover video games released to multiple games console systems and other banners, among them were Nicktoons Racing, Nickelodeon Party Blast, Nicktoons Basketball, Nicktoons: Freeze Frame Frenzy, Nicktoons Winners Cup Racing, Nicktoons Nitro.
- Cartoon Network's FusionFall is a crossover of all the Cartoon Network original cartoons in a video game and manga book. Previously, there had been other few Cartoon Network crossover video games released to various games brands and consoles throughout the years, among them Block Party, Punch Time Explosion, CN Racing and Cartoon Network Speedway.
- The latest Disney Channel DCOM-based video game, a crossover entitled Disney Channel All Star Party, finally united the lead characters from Phineas and Ferb, Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and the Camp Rock film series for a penultimate all-star musical karaoke dance-off.
- The games Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games feature characters from Nintendo's Mario universe, and Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog universe competing against each other in Olympic events. This was the first time the two former rival characters appeared in the same game together.
- PlayStation Move Heroes includes characters from the Jak and Daxter games, Sly Cooper games, and Ratchet & Clank games.
- PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a game in the vein of Super Smash Bros., pitting various PlayStation characters from PlayStation-exclusive games (and some third-party characters) against each other in fights.

- The fact that the 1986 animated feature GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords was nearly a crossover of GoBots and The Rock Lords is due to the fact that the Rock Lords were spun off into their own toy line, much later after the movie was released.
- Ian and Matt from Mac Hall meet Piro and Largo from Megatokyo (both series)
- A story arc in Dragon Ball involves Son Goku meeting Arale and the cast of Dr. Slump (Akira Toriyama's previous manga). The young Goku would appear in a later anime adaptation of Dr. Slump produced during the 1990s. Many Dragon Ball characters also appeared in Toriyama's later parody manga Neko Majin Z.
- Characters from Battle of the Planets meet the ThunderCats (Battle of the Planets/ThunderCats, Top Cow).
- Aliens, Predators, and Terminators fight each other (Aliens versus Predator versus The Terminator).
- Mortadelo and Filemon meet Rompetechos, another character created and owned by Mortadelo and Filemon's author Francisco Ibanez. This has happened commonly, as they also meet other characters created and owned by other authors but published the same company, like Zipi y Zape and Superlópez.
- David Letterman and Paul Schäfer once teamed up with the Avengers to face the Mechano-Marauder.
- Spider-Man joined forces with the cast of Saturday Night Live in an issue of "Marvel Team-Up". Stan Lee made a cameo appearance in this story.
- Mexican comedian Chespirito make some crossovers with his characters:
- El Chapulin Colorado meets El Chavo del Ocho (the two most famous Chespirito characters) in the episode "Todo queda en familia" ("All in the family"), because El Chavo invokes El Chapulin to help him with the problems between Don Ramon and Doña Florinda. Later, in the three-part episode "El Disfraz, el Antifaz y Algo Más" ("The disguise, the Mask and Something More"), Los Caquitos are the main antagonists on a smuggling during a costume party and El Chapulin will stop them (the episode also made some cameos from other Chespirito characters like El Chavo, Quico, Dr. Chapatin and the tributes to Charlie Chaplin's The Tramp and Laurel and Hardy). Finally, in the episode "Blancanieves y los Siete Churinfurinfunflais" ("Snow White and the Seven Churinfurinfunflais"), El Chapulin help the Professor Jirafales from El Chavo to teach the class to his alumns (the kids from the same series) and he tells them the (parodic) story of Snow White (the entire episode is also a parody and a tribute to Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and was produced with the special collaboration of Walt Disney).

Both shows were created by Seth MacFarlane.
- On Family Guy Brian Griffin is watching an episode of Scarecrow and Mrs. King in "Deep Throats", but instead of Bruce Boxleitner’s character, secret agent Lee "Scarecrow" Stetson, Kate Jackson’s Amanda King is paired with the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz.

- Belle from the 1991 film Beauty and the Beast crosses the street in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
- Sebastian from the 1989 film The Little Mermaid was pulled out by Genie in Aladdin, along with the first few notes of "Under The Sea" playing.
- A tea set that has a striking similarity to Mrs. Potts and Chip, also of Beauty and the Beast was shown for a few seconds in Tarzan (it can also be seen in Deep Jungle in Kingdom Hearts, despite the fact that Belle and the Beast are somewhat important plot characters).
- Pumbaa from The Lion King (1994) is carried on a spit in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
- Also, Scar of The Lion King makes an appearance in Hercules as the skin of the Nemean Lion, worn by the titular character in one scene.
- King of the Hill characters appear on The Simpsons to comment on a peewee football game in the episode "Bart Star". A Bart Simpson doll often appears in Bobby Hill's room on King of the Hill.

In both films, the Father Anthony persona has the same costume, mannerisms and accent, even though Amitabh Bachchan is playing a different character in each of the two films.

- In the final two episodes of Mobile Fighter G Gundam, machines from all the previous Gundam series, the then in-production Gundam Wing, and other mecha series by Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino appear among the forces battling the monstrous Devil Gundam.

- Family Guy and The Simpsons have made numerous crossovers with each other. In one episode of Family Guy ("PTV"), character Stewie Griffin ran over Homer Simpson in his big wheel. In Simpsons' episode "The Italian Bob", Homer sees pictures of Peter Griffin and Stan Smith (of fellow Seth MacFarlane cartoon American Dad!) in a book of criminals (Peter and Stan are labeled as plagiarists). In the Simpsons episode "Treehouse of Horror XIII", Homer accidentally creates millions of clones of himself, one of which happens to be Peter Griffin.
- The Japanese manga Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo occasionally features characters from other manga (i.e. the famous Yugi and Osiris scene).
- The Simpsons was referenced in the episode of South Park titled "Simpsons Already Did It"; South Park episode #86.
- Family Guy is also referenced on South Park; episode #142, "Cartoon Wars Part I" and "Cartoon Wars Part II", #143. A character resembling Bart Simpson is also seen at the FOX network studio on Part II.
- The Smurfs also appear in Eric Cartman's fantasy on the South Park episode "Dances with Smurfs".

- In an episode of The A-Team, H. M. Murdock appears on Wheel of Fortune and not only wins a car but goes on a Hawaiian vacation (instead of Face).
- In The Simpsons episode "Sideshow Bob Roberts", Sideshow Bob pins a 'GOP' (Republican Party) button on Bart and then kicks him out of his limo onto the front lawn. A jalopy with the Archie gang (Archie, Jughead, Reggie, and Big Moose) then kicks Homer out onto the front lawn, warning him to "stay out of Riverdale."
- On a cartoon teaser of an early episode of The Simpsons, "Treehouse of Horror II", the costumed trick-or-treaters passing by the Simpson house are the Peanuts gang.
- In The Simpsons episode "The Springfield Files", a police lineup of "aliens" includes the following: ALF, Chewbacca, Gort, and Marvin the Martian.
- In "The Night of the Living Duck" segment of Daffy Duck's Quackbusters, one of the customers in the Monsters Lounge is none other than Alfred E. Neuman of Mad magazine.
- In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a window is in the castle courtyard. Upon closer inspection, it can be seen that inside the castle are framed pictures of Mario and Yoshi.
- In Being Ian, Kyle and Korey are repeatedly seen watching Yvon of the Yukon.
- A Gani-Gani badnik from the Sonic the Hedgehog series appears in Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.
- Homer Simpson appears at the end of an episode of Duckman.
- In an episode of Disney's Boy Meets World, Eric (Will Friedle's character) has to save Jack (Matt Lawrence's character) from a coven of witches, and in the end credits Eric is dating Sabrina of CBS Television Distribution's Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, who appears to have turned Jack into a frog for some reason.
- Jeanni (Barbara Eden) of I Dream of Jeannie makes an appearance at the end of A Very Brady Sequel.
- The comic book Dork Tower once claimed that it would have a crossover with Lethargic Lad on its cover. However, the crossover never happened, because Lethargic Lad is "a comic book character!"
- In The Curse of Monkey Island, if players can get Guybrush to walk in the water on Blood Island, they can see him and his character in the first part underwater. New Guybrush does not seem to recognize the old one, because he already drowned.
- In Mad Magazine's spoof of Star Trek, one panel has Charlie Brown flying his kite in outer space!
- Sir Hiss from Robin Hood appears in the Aladdin video games.
- At the end of the Family Guy episode "Meet the Quagmires" and during the Star Wars episode, Roger the Alien from American Dad! made a couple of cameos.

- Must See TV: On November 9, 1995, Caroline Duffy of Caroline in the City made a cameo on Friends in "The One with the Baby on the Bus". Ross Geller made a cameo on The Single Guy in "Neighbors". Appearances and/or references of plots, items, materials, and/or objects that appear in another setting. Often used as a non-sequitur or anachronistic gag.
- Characters from multiple media franchises may put up and play their versions of pre-existing classic fiction works as another means of a fictional crossover, here are the notable examples:
- The Care Bears put up their own versions of Alice in Wonderland and The Nutcracker respectively. (The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland and Care Bears Nutcracker Suite)
- Mickey Mouse, the Looney Tunes gang, Mr. Magoo, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Sesame, Dennis the Menace and Doctor Who have all but homaged, spoofed and lampooned the famous Charles Dickens Christmas story, A Christmas Carol. - The Famous Adventures of Mr. Magoo is an animated cartoon series that found Mr. Magoo storytelling and playing his own versions of various fairy tales and other famous classic stories from popular culture, such as Snow White, Don Quixote, Rip Van Winkle and Uncle Sam.
- Goofy hat in Aladdin

- The TARDIS appearing in the first episode of Roman Britain-set comedy Chelmsford 123
- Tak (Invader Zim) wears Johnny the Homicidal Maniac's boots

- Tool box bearing the Binford Tools logo (Disney's Home Improvement) in Toy Story (1995)
- Pixar characters often appear in other films of the company. Near the end of Monsters Inc., Boo plays with a Nemo squeaky toy (a character from Finding Nemo which was in production at the time Monsters Inc. was released), as well as a Jessie (Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3) doll. Similarly, there is a Mr. Incredible comic book and a Buzz Lightyear toy as well as a Pizza Planet truck in Finding Nemo.
- Belle, the heroine of Beauty and the Beast, appears amidst the crowd during the opening festival scene in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
- E.T.'s race is a member of the Republic's Galactic Senate in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.
- Two kids in the "real world" wear Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck pajamas in The Nightmare Before Christmas. During the same scene, they are being chased by Scary Teddy, which resembles Mickey.
- Stitch appears on one of Koda's outtakes on the DVD release of Disney's Brother Bear.
- Stitch appears in outer space in the third Timon and Pumbaa Virtual Safari 5.1 DVD ride on The Lion King II: Simba's Pride Special Edition DVD.
- The original preview for Lilo and Stitch featured an opening scene taken from Beauty and the Beast, where Belle and the Beast are dancing in the ballroom. Stitch falls from the ceiling, bringing the chandelier with him, and almost lands on top of Belle, to which she responds: "Get your own movie!" and then storms away.
- A Stitch doll is visible in Treasure Planet (shown in theaters in the same year, 2002).
- Timon replaces Genie and Stitch appears over the mountains in the Virtual Magic Carpet Ride on the Aladdin Platinum Editions DVDs.
- In The Brady Bunch Movie, The Partridge Family's bus is seen as the Bradys are heading to the talent show.
- Dexter has a Samurai Jack doll on his shelf in the later episodes of Dexter's Lab.
- An unseen Mario is the announcer in Pac-Man Vs.
- Pac-Man's symbol being featured in many Namco and early Midway games.
- The Naboo N-1 starfighter from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is featured as a hidden fighter in the Nintendo 64 game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, which was released nearly a year and a half before (the code to unlock the ship was only revealed after the release of The Phantom Menace).
- The Necronomicon from the Evil Dead films appears in the Voorhees' family home in Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. This is later revisited in the comic book Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash. Freddy Krueger's hand is also seen at the end of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, teasing Freddy vs. Jason
- In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, there are pictures of Krazy Kat and Popeye hanging in the background of the ice cream parlor.
- In an episode of "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius" titled: "the Evil Beneath", Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen are seen watching an episode of "Mysterious Mysteries", the show that Dib from "Invader Zim" watches regularly.
- A scene in Disney's Tarzan features Mrs. Potts and Chip. They appear as everyday lifeless dinnerware, but upon closer inspection, actually resemble these characters moreover.
- Laugh It Up, Fuzzball: The Family Guy Trilogy; in which Peter Griffin retells the stories of all three films of the original Star Wars trilogy, along with the Griffin family, with the Family Guy cast of characters recast in the Star Wars roles.
