The Olympic Games is a major international multi-sport event. During its history there have been boycotts on 6 occasions, all of the Summer Olympics. The first boycott occurred at the 1936 Summer Olympics and the most recent was at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Rhodesia is the only country which has been prevented from entering, when its invitation to the 1972 Summer Olympics was withdrawn by the International Olympic Committee, following protests by other African countries.
