Attention MCTS Freeway Flyer & UBUS Riders

Pertains to customers who Ride ONLY local streets on a Freeway Flyer Route

Effective Monday, September 29, 2014, the Milwaukee County Transit System will be implementing a new policy that will require any person riding on a Freeway Flyer route – even just a short segment of the route- to pay the Freeway Flyer fare.

This will NOT affect most riders and fares are NOT changing. Riders will still pay with a valid pass (i.e. CVP, U-PASS), Weekly/Monthly pass with cash premium, or the cash fare of $3.25 adult/$1.60 reduced.

In the past, MCTS was able to accommodate riders who rode Freeway Flyers for just a short distance by charging them a regular local fare ($2.25 adult cash or $1.1.0 reduced). MCTS will no longer be able to provide this service.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation as we implement this policy.

Note: The $0.35 zone fare still applies for passengers who board or alight Route 79 in Waukesha County.

Service to the festival is provided with downtown shuttles and freeway flyers, which operate frequently from about 11:00 a.m. until the festival closes, each night of the fest. Some of the Summerfest freeway flyers serve different Park & Ride lots than do the regular rush-hour flyers with the same number.

Past bus routes

Over the years, some bus routes have disappeared due to low ridership and/or funding cuts. Some bus routes have been discarded, only to return over the years. Others have simply been altered. For completeness purposes however, former information is listed here. Among those include:

The route ran seven days per week, and offered two trips per day. The trips are scheduled to meet Quad's 7:00 shift change time (the company has 12-hour shifts, that change at 7:00 A.M. and P.M.). A similar service, route eliminated in mid-2010 (June 27, 2010) after Quad Graphics stopped funding for the route.

Replaced streetcar service on March 2, 1958.

Route 14 will no longer end at Downtown Milwaukee at Downtown Transit Center. Route 14 will now be extended through Downtown Milwaukee to Bayshore Mall (Bayshore Town Center) in Silver Spring Drive and Port Washington Road. Route 14's original route will now be permanently discontinued (eliminated). Route 14 the 5th will now be called Humboldt-Forest Home.

NOTE: Route 15 buses takes a layover on the Northside and Route 52 buses takes a layover on the Southside. Where you will see Route 15 going one way and Route 52 going the other way. So this means the routes were changed on January 29, 2012 (last 5 years ago) when they changed from Oakland-Kinnicknnic to Holton-Kinnicknnic, So it has been there now ever since. Oakland-Kinnicknnic is now permily discontinued with the new Route 15 buses now doing the Drexel via 5th Avenue tips for all buses. Route 15 backthen was first named Grange-Pennsylvania-15th Avenue branch. Backthen Route 15 headed N/S on Packard Avenue to Ladish Avenue, E/W on Ladish turns N/S on Whitnall to Grange Avenue, then E/W on Grange to Pennsylvania Avenue. Then after that Route 15 now became Clement-Pennsylvania-15th Avenue branch.

Service from Humboldt & Keefe to Hampton & Santa Monica replaced by Route 24 in March 1980.

Route 102 operated from the Mill Road Transit Center to the Bradley Woods industrial park area from January 1992, until the route was replaced with a rush-hour extension of route 23 in March 2004.

This is an incomplete list of MCTS routes that had been modified or discontinued over the years. It will be updated when data became available and route maps maybe added.
