List of Catholic dioceses in Nigeria
The Catholic Church in Nigeria is mainly composed of a Latin hierarchy, joined in a national Episcopal Conference of Nigeria, and a single Eastern Catholic (transnational) see, comprising
- 9 ecclesiastical provinces, each under a Metropolitan Archbishop,
- with a total of 44 suffragan dioceses
- three pre-diocesan jurisdictions :
- two missionary apostolic vicariates.
- a Maronite Apostolic Exarchate, for all Western and Central Africa
There is an Apostolic Nunciature (papal diplomatic representation at emebassy-level) to Nigeria in the national capital Abuja; in it is also vested the papal Permanent Observer to Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
There are no titular sees. All defunct jurisdictions have current successor sees.
