Lillian Richard

Lillian Richard (March 23, 1891 - 1956) was an American actress. She was born in Hawkins, Texas and grew up in the nearby community of Fouke, Texas. At the age of 20, Richard went to Dallas looking for work and a short time later was contracted by Quaker Oats Company to play the mascot for their Aunt Jemima food brand, demonstrating Aunt Jemima's pancakes and other products in stores. Her career with Quaker Oats lasted until she had a stroke in the late 1940s. In 1995 the Texas Legislature passed a resolution declaring Hawkins the "Pancake Capital of Texas", and in 2012 a Texas Historical Marker was placed in Richard's name.[1][2]

In addition to her local celebrity status in East Texas, she was also the grand aunt of another hometown celebrity, Stanley Richard. Stanley Richard is a retired safety in the NFL, having played for the San Diego Chargers and the Washington Redskins. He is the grandson of George Richard of Hawkins Texas, Lillian's older brother.
