Life company
A Life Company (Swedish: Livkompani, but usually written in its definite form; Livkompaniet) is the first company of a regiment in the Swedish Army, which is tasked with protecting the regiment commander.[1]
Until the Defense Act of 2000, life companies had only existed at certain regiments, usually infantry and armoured regiments. In the cavalry, the equivalent of a life company would be a Livskvadron, Life Squadron. During the 20th century, life companies trained recruits into becoming platoon or company commanders.
As of 2016, Life companies are present in the following units:
- Life Guards (LG)
- Norrbotten Regiment (I 19)
- Life Regiment Hussars (K 3)
- Skaraborg Regiment (P 4)
- Air Defence Regiment (Lv 6)
- Command and Control Regiment (LedR)
- South Scania Regiment (P 7)
Following reorganization measures in 2012, the Södermanland Group of the Home Guard was outfitted with a life company, inheriting it from its now deactivated Army counterpart, the Södermanland Regiment. The reorganization made the Södermanland Group the only unit of the Home Guard outfitted with a life company.
