"Let Go" is a progressive house song written and produced by Canadian producer deadmau5, with vocals performed by American producer Grabbitz. It is the second and final single from his eighth studio album W:/2016ALBUM/. It was released exclusively on his record label mau5trap on November 18, 2016.[1][2]
Background
The production started when Grabbitz made a vocal bootleg version of the while(1<2) track "Silent Picture" almost 2 weeks after its original release.[3] Zimmerman was impressed with the vocal edit, claiming he wanted to finish it on Twitter[4] (similar to how he found Chris James' vocals for "The Veldt").
Zimmerman then produced a demo of Let Go titled "aaddsfffsfsf" in 2015. He uploaded it to his subscription website live.deadmau5.com;[5] and later to his YouTube account as well.[6] However, Zimmerman later cancelled development of "aaddsfffsfsf" and its melody was later turned into a royalty free MIDI file after being put in his Chimaera pack sold by Splice in April 2016.[7] It was renamed to "Fanaus" for release as a MIDI file in the pack, which was debatably confirmed by a Reddit user.[8] However, the project was revised over time and a new demo was uploaded to Zimmerman's SoundCloud account (prior to it being compromised) titled "Blood for the Bloodgoat".
The track was originally unreleased until a fan asked him to release the track on his next album.[9] For the album's release, the track was renamed to its final title and released in late 2016 as an album pre-order single.[10]
Composition
"Let Go" is a progressive house song with a tempo of 128 beats per minute and is written in the key of C minor.[11]
