Lesara is a clothes online store founded in Berlin in 2013 by Roman Kirsch, Matthias Wilrich and Robin Müller.[4] As of 2017, Lesara has over 200 employees and an estimated 4 million users every month buying 70,000 products,[5][6] selling in 23 European countries and has established partnerships with distributors and manufacturers in other countries.[7]

History

Lesara was founded in 2013 by Roman Kirsch (CEO), Matthias Wilrich (COO) and Robin Müller (CTO).[5][8] The company has its head office located in Berlin, Germany and the second office in Guangzhou, China.[5]

In 2015, Lesara raised €15 million in funding rounds from investors, including Northzone and Vorwerk Ventures,[9] and expanded to 16 new countries in Europe.[10] Wired included Lesara on his 2016 "Hottest Startups" list,[11] and The Next Web listed Lesara as the "Europe's fastest growing Tech Startup" in 2016[12][13][14][15]

Retail

Lesara was one of the first companies that uses the concept of agile retail in the fashion industry.[16][7] Agile retail is a direct-to-consumer retail model that uses big data to try to predict trends, manage efficient production cycles, and faster turnaround on emerging styles.[17] The company uses data analysis, which acquires data from Google, social media and blog posts, identifying currently trendy clothing.[18]

Criticism

German consumer blogger Daniel Brückner reported on his blog toptestsieger.de about fake testimonials[19], misleading crossed out prices and copyright violations[20]. In 2015 Lesara GmbH filed a suit against Daniel Brückner, which has been dismissed by Landgericht Köln (Regional Court, Cologne) in 2016[21][22] In September 2016, Beobachter reported about alleged illegal crossed-out prices in Switzerland, citing Guido Sutter, chief legal adviser of Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (SECO) in Switzerland, that they would send Lesara a cease and desist order.[23]
