Leo Docherty was born in 1976 and is a British Conservative Party politician. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Aldershot since June 2017.[1] He is a graduate of the University of London and The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. From 2001 to 2007 he served in the Scots Guards.[2] After leaving the army he became a local councillor and Director of the Conservative Middle East Council.

Career

Docherty is a former British Army Captain who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.[3]

The Financial Times called his selection "the highest-profile tussle over a candidate choice, the party leadership rejected a request from activists in Aldershot to be allowed to consider Daniel Hannan, the prominent Eurosceptic MEP, for the safe Tory seat".[3]

Docherty has been Director of the Conservative Middle East Council since 2010.[4]

He was one of the many Conservative MP's to vote against the Labour amendment to the 2017 Queens speech that would have removed the 1% cap on public service workers annual pay rises.[5]
