The Lachnospiraceae are a family of bacteria in the order of Clostridiales which occur in the human and mammal gut microbiota.[4][7][8][9] All species of this family are anaerobic.[9] Members of this family may protect against colon cancer in humans by producing butyric acid.[10] Lachnospiraceae has been found to cause diabetes in germ free mice.[11]
