Kumkum  Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan[1] (Hindustani pronunciation: [ˈkʊmkʊm]; English: A Lovely Bond) is a daytime Indian television soap opera that aired on STAR Plus channel. It remains one of the longest running serials on Indian television with a total of 1449 episodes aired over seven years.

The show aired worldwide from Monday to Friday afternoons at 13:00. Its final episode was broadcast on 13 March 2009.

It was the fourth longest running serial in India after Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kasautii Zindagii Kay and is also ranked fourth among the most watched daily soaps on Indian television ever.

Plot summary

The soap opera tells the tale of the Wadhwa family and its daughter-in-law, Kumkum. She is happily married to Jatin. However, he dies of a brain tumor while she is expecting their first child. The Wadhwas decide to get their young daughter-in-law re-married, and find an eligible young man named Vishal. However, when obstacles arise to prevent that marriage, Jatin's younger brother Sumit impulsively marries Kumkum in order to save her from social disgrace. After this, Sumit and Kumkum come to the fact that both of them love each other very much and cannot think of living without each other. Kumkum had one son from Jatin named Druv. Druv had one step brother and sister form his step-father Sumit. Now that Kumkum notices that her son doesn't like Sumit, whereas Sumit considers him just like his own son. So Kumkum decides to finish the bitter feeling between them.
