Krypton is an upcoming American cable television series developed by David S. Goyer and Damian Kindler for Syfy. The show is set in Superman's home planet, approximately 200 years before Superman.[1] Krypton will be released in 2018.

Premise

According to IGN, Krypton "will follow Superman's grandfather – whose House of El was ostracized and shamed – as he fights to redeem his family's honor and save his beloved world from chaos."[1]

Characters

Seg's father Ter-El, Doomsday, Hawkgirl, Adam Strange and Brainiac will also appear in the television series.[6][2]

Production

In 2014, it was reported that David S. Goyer is developing a prequel TV series titled Krypton.[7] In December 2014, it was confirmed that the series is in development and will air on the Syfy network. Later it was announced that the series will be produced by Goyer and written and executive produced by Ian Goldberg.[8] Goyer has also confirmed that the series will take place approximately 200 years before the time period of the Man of Steel film.[9] In May 2016, TV Line reported that Syfy has given the official pilot order for the series, and that Damian Kindler will be the showrunner, Goyer co-executive producer, and Colm McCarthy will direct the pilot.[10][11] In June 2016, production on the pilot was slated to begin in Montreal "later this summer".[2] By September 2016, the pilot was to be filmed in Serbia.[4] On April 18, 2017, the first teaser trailer of Krypton was released online, teasing the show's debut in 2017.[12] However, the following month, Syfy tweeted a debut of 2018.[13]
