Creation

Kid Victory was a musical co-produced by Vineyard Theatre and Signature Theatre. It was first performed in 2015 at Signature Theatre[1] and later reworked and performed at the Vineyard Theatre in 2017[2]. The story was written by John Kander and Greg Pierce, with music by John Kander, book and lyrics by Greg Pierce, choreography by Christopher Windom, and directed by Liesl Tommy[1]. Its 2017 showing was described by its producers as a "hauntingly mesmerizing original musical" about "breaking out and breaking through"[2].

Plot

The play begins with high school senior and sailboat enthusiast Luke returning to his small, Kansas town after an unplanned, unannounced one-year absence. As Luke finds it difficult to reconnect with friends and family or to focus on school work, he experiences recurrent flashbacks of his year-long absence and the events and relationship leading up to it. As he tried to readjust, Luke develops a growing friendship with the town misfit, Emily, and his parents slowly realize that in order to truly reconnect with their son, they must confront some unnerving truths about his disappearance.[2][3]
