Kharagpur College, established in 1949,[1] is one of the oldest college in Paschim Medinipur. It offers undergraduate courses in arts, commerce and sciences. It is affiliated to Vidyasagar University.[2]
History
Kharagpur College was established on 29 August, 1949 in the premises of the Silver Jubilee School at Kharagpur, Puratan Bazar. Mrs. Saleha Khatoon , wife of late Nasir Ali Khan of Panchberia, Kharagpur donated the land for college construction and the construction was started under the dispersal scheme of the State Government on the 2nd day of July 1951. The college later shifted it's operation at the present permanent site at Inda, Kharagpur.

Location
The college is located in the heart of Kharagpur town in the district Paschim Medinipur, formerly called Midnapore.It is approx 4km. from Kharagpur Bus-stand. It is well connected in terms of accessibility by road network and railway. As the Kharagpur is an important railway Junction, it is easier to reach to that point from all over India. As the location of the college is in outskirt of Kharagpur town, it need time to reach college from the heart of the town. On the other way, it is much easier to reach college from nearby town Midnapore by road network.
Accreditation
Recently, Kharagpur College has been awarded B+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).[3] The college is also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).[1]
